Mini Project - Cast Iron Tub

A miracle has just happened! I was able to escape the suffocating confines of the dungeon long enough to finish up a mini project that has been ongoing since we moved into this house a year ago. I know... why did it take so long to finish up a mini project? Well, I don't have an answer! It just tucked so neatly away in the garage... Also it made such a great makeshift table to pile things on that I couldn't bear to finish it. That, and the fact that you have to throw your back out in order to move the blasted thing! So, if you haven't guessed by now, I'm talking about the cast iron tub!! I believe it made a cameo on some earlier pictures of the house...

Ahh... It is a beautiful room no??

Fugly Fact #1:
The PVC plumbing and plastic fixtures on the supply lines were spray painted silver... nice
...although I didn't have such hard feelings when pricing some nice tub hardware

Fugly Fact #2:
I've still got the sconces.. anyone want them?

The Dungeon: Part III

New Years Day officially marked our one year anniversary of living in this house. In some ways, time has flown by, and in other ways... meaning when I think about how many things have broken and how many times I've been side tracked by old house issues.. time seems to be right on track. It has been a while since my last post, but things are progressing.. I swear it!! The good news is that I'm making a lot of head way on the foundations, the bad news is that this kind of work doesn't make for very eye catching photography...

The Dungeon: Part II

It's cooled down, Dexter is growing like a weed, and I've become more motivated as of late. My jump in motivation is directly linked to the weather if you are wondering. We've been able to get a couple of good weekends of work focused on the Dungeon. Mainly, we've been working on repointing the mortar in the chimney base and the back foundation wall. So.. here we go....

Quickie - Hidden Treasure

So... you want an update on the house progress?? Well here it is.. It is too hot, so there has been very little labor happening up in here! However, some progress in preparation for the foundation work has been made. While poking around under the house, I discovered this little mysterious treasure. I don't know what it is, aside from the obvious.. it is a bird and made out of wood. My guess is old hair fork???

Quickie - Bigger Dreams

On our recent trip to California, we spent a little time in Eureka and Arcata. There is some great old architecture in those areas. Seeing these older and more elaborate Victorians made me want one! Take a look at some of the cool houses we came across...

Mini Project - Machine Cart

When faced with enormous home remodeling tasks, it is absolutely necessary to sidetrack yourself with simple projects that are easier and totally unnecessary. Enter old dock cart! Ours is from North Carolina and here is its transformation into a coffee table/ conversational piece. Hope you like!

Heat Stroke

It is just too hot to want to do anything! Most of the time when I need motivation, I look to my MONSTER for guidance...

...sometimes even the great MONSTER can fail when facing such an impossible task in the sticky heat. OK OK.. I know it is not all THAT hot! I've worked out in much worse. It is supposed to be a muggy hot mess today, with a heat index of 100 degrees and 60% humidity or something. It wouldn't be so bad if I could wear hot weather clothes... like some shorts, flip flops, and optional shirt... but you see... I'm going down into....

THE DUNGEON!!

New Contender!!!

This house is becoming quite the challenge. It is not the actual effort, but more of a challenge in time management and self control. An exercise in time management in the sense that everything always takes twice as long as initially thought. Also, it is an exercise in self control because we want to do the quick things that will make the house look better right away. For example, we have painted two rooms, the dining and fireplace room (I know I need to post more..but time management! ha) The paint looks great and everything, but the walls will get torn to pieces later! ha! Oh well..

Anyway! We have a surprise! Since this house is starting to make us second guess and run around in circles, we decided to bring in an outside contractor to deal with some of the heavy lifting....
So! Without further ado!
Meet the newest addition to the roster!!
Newest Contender... Buzzsaw!!!!!

(Dexter aka.. BUZZSAW!!)

Buzzsaw hails from the Land of the Misfits and brings some mad skills to combat the 803 Pratt monster.
DON'T SCREW WITH THIS MAD DOG!!

Art-Way

So I don't know what to say about this one, except that this was our first real taste of an "old home project". When I say "old home project", I'm talking about something that starts out as a simple project and then balloons into some sort of monster mutant project with the ability to stop and in some cases reverse time!! This was one of those...

Mother Nature is a B*&@%

We're back!! There's a couple of projects going on right now but I'm going to focus on just this one. The Backyard! The amount of time and work that has gone into this gardeners nightmare is ridiculous. When we first moved in, I thought... "Tear that out, move that, level that out... backyard wont' be so bad." I'm an idiot. It has been a couple of months since the first move and we're just now getting the backyard back to a clean slate. I've got big plans for the space that include, a firepit, built in grill/ bar, patio pavers, hammock, and all kinds of goodies for having a blast outside. I'll post a blueprint later on.. but first here is a collage of our journey through this hellish backyard..
